Hot News:  A terrific Sumatra National Meet was held on Memorial Day weekend at the Southern Ohio Poultry Show, Lucasville, Ohio.  There were numerous Sumatra Club members exhibiting around 100 sumatras at the 2000 bird show.  In the Jr. Show, Champion Bantam was by Robert Sterner, Iowa.  Reserve Bantam was KJ Poultry, Illinois.  The Jr. Show Champion and Reserve Champion Sumatras were by Rebekah Payne, Indiana.  Rebekah’s black cockerel became Champion AOSB and Champion Large Fowl of the Junior Show!  In the Open Show, Tom Kernan, New Jersey, swept the Champion and Reserve Champion Sumatras.  The Club made over $500 in Silent Auction birds and hatching eggs donated by Tom Kernan.  More details and photos will be in the June newsletter to members.

May 15, 2010 - An amazing day for Rebekah Payne, from Indiana.  She exhibited at the Kentuckiana Poultry Double Show in Shelbyville, KY.  Rebekah was Grand Champion Large Fowl of both Open Shows; and she usually only shows in Junior Shows!  She’s a youngster who beat the adults!  There were over 1200 birds at the show, including a good number of sumatra large fowl. 

May 1, 2010; a big day for Sumatras in Indiana.  At the Feathered Friends Poultry Show, Columbus, Indiana.   Grand Champion Large Fowl of the Junior Show was a Black Sumatra hen by Justin Tinkle, Franklin, Indiana.   Grand Champion Large Fowl of the Open Show was a Black Sumatra pullet by Doug Akers. 

The Dayton Poultry Show was held in Greenville, Ohio on April 24th & 25th.  Champion AOSB of the Jr. Show was a Black Sumatra cockbird by KJ Poultry of Illinois.  Champion AOSB of the Open Show was a Black Sumatra pullet by Doug Akers, Indiana.  29 AOSB shown.  There were 1,587 birds in the show.

The Gateway Poultry Show was held in Bloomington, Indiana on Saturday, April 10th.  This year’s event was a double show.  In one show (white card show) , Champion AOSB was a Black sumatra hen by Carl Fosbrink of Seymour, Indiana.  In the other show (the blue card show), Champion AOSB was a Black Sumatra pullet by Doug Akers, Lebanon, Indiana. 

The Southeast Ohio Poultry Show was held in Marietta, Ohio on March 27th & 28th.  Three sumatra exhbitors showed large fowl.  BB, Champion AOSB, Champion Large Fowl and Show Champion was a Black Sumatra Hen by Tom Kernan, Heislerville, NJ.   Congratulations, Tom!

 The 2010 Sumatra National Meet will be held with the Southern Oho Poultry Association, in Lucasville, Ohio.  The show is also hosting the APA Semi-National.  There will be a silent auction and also sumatra trios will be auctioned, according to Tom Kernan, ASA President.  All proceeds benefit the American Sumatra Association.  Tom has graciously volunteered to sponsor all the Sumatra National awards this year.
