Ok, Thanks for the info. That explains why my blues are three different colors. All my birds are from two different hatcherys. The blacks are 3 months old and my blues are 4 weeks. All are doing fine.I won't be doing any breeding for awhile due to there age. I wasn't planning on breeding any of the blacks to the blues as i wanted to keep them pure, but maby that's the way to go. What would two white sums get you? Is it possible to get white sums from breeding the white ones to each other?

Blue is a ressessive gene... when you mate 2 blues, the chciks will come out "black" or "blue" or "splash", but all will carry the gene for blue..... when you cross a black onto the splash, you will get blue chicks....

Hi, I'm new here. I am raiseing 28 sums from chicks at the moment. 14 of them are the blue and i was wandering why they are different colors. My black sums were all the same color. Why is that? Are the blues not perfected yet or something? I have 3 that are almost pure white.

This winter in Iowa it has been rough!!! So much snow & cold that I think we shall never warm up!

I am looking forward to spring & to the first APA show in Iowa, the UPF/CPC spring show at Avoca, Iowa on May 8th & 9th. If anyone wishes to recieve a show catelog let me know….I would love to visit with some of my fellow Sumatra fanciers at Avoca this May

OH, & ALSO….if all y'all are entering your Sumatra at any shows in 2010, please contact either me or Doug so we can be sure to place a Sumatra meet at the show….. ASA exhibitor points are better & easier to aquire than APA exhibitor points

Where can I find the standard for the Sumatras. I just aquired a young cockrel with beautiful green plummage with purple and blue highlights.

I am not sure if he is show quality but he sure caught my eye!! The research I have done looks favorable for him, he has multiple spurs, yellow bottoms to his feet, beautiful plummage (even though he's still young) but what is the eye set etc supposed to be for him.

He's very friendly and gentle. I live in Florida but would love to promote this under appreciated breed! I have shown dogs and horses before but am pretty ignorant of chicken show protocol. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks so much
